Dragonsfly Dance/music WORKSHOP

French and Breton ceilidhs:
An opportunity to have fun learning these ancient circle and couple dances
and experience them with medieval and original music on traditional
instruments such as bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy, bouzouki, mandolin, tabla,
electric bass, saxophones and vocals. Joining the community, young and
old, in a celebration of life.

This workshop forms part of The Future Sound of Exeter’s World Music Extravaganza at Exeter Respect Festival - and amazing five area show at Exeter Phoenix - Saturday 7th July.

Sound Gallery presents ANALOGUE TO DIGITAL WORKSHOP with Steve Clarke

The Black Box - Exeter Phoenix // Sat 3 March // 10am - 4.30pm // £15

This workshop examines the digital reproduction of keyboard instruments ancient
and modern. From harpsichords, through acoustic and electric pianos to analogue
synthesizers, digital reproductions are examined by comparison to some examples
of original instruments. Sampling and synthesis techniques are discussed (at a simple
level!) and there will be opportunities for participants to get their hands on some
keyboards old and new.

THE ANALOGUE LUNCHTIME LECTURE with Ann Shenton

Exeter Phoenix Auditorium // Sat 3 March // 12-30pm to 1.30pm // Free

Ann Shenton, ex founder member of sonic terrorists Add N to X and architect of
Large Number, takes us on a journey into the dusty corners of her strange electronic
world. Using images, sound makers and audience participation, Ann will be
conducting a discourse on analogue music, equipment and personalities.

GUITAR EFFECTS FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM with Jas Morris

The Black Box // Sat 10 March // 2pm - 5pm // Free

This workshop examines the transition of effects stomp boxes from the classic
Fuzz box to the latest generation of effects pads. Effects are described in detail and
demonstrated by the Mansons team, featuring Jas Morris (guitarist of the year 2003).
