Description

Creative Music Technology Course - Foundation
Our new creative music technology course will equip you with the skills and the know-how, as well as demystifying the hardware and software required to create and produce music at home. We will cover basic recording, sequencing, sampling and synthesis, using a range of music software platforms (Reason, Logic 8 and Garageband).

Days: Saturdays: 10am-1pm & 2-5pm

Dates: 24 April, 1 May, 8 May (3 week course)

Tutor: Paul Johnstone

Cost: £195/£180 concession

Participants: 3-5

Venue: Exeter Phoenix Media Centre 

Aims

  • To enable participants to create and produce music on a computer.

  • Provide students with the necessary information and guidance to be able to create their own home setup and to use current music technology software

Objectives/Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course participants will:

  • Be familiar with the key features of modern DAW software, using Garageband, Logic Pro and Reason

  • Understand how to record, import, edit, manipulate and export audio

  • Understand how to record, sequence and edit MIDI

  • Be introduced to the basic practices of sampling and synthesis

  • Use this knowledge to create their own work

Understand the key components of a basic home computer music setup and key factors to consider when selecting equipment.

Course Content
Course introduction. Working with loops in Garageband.
Introduction to Logic Pro. Recording & sequencing MIDI. 
 Soft synths and samplers – Logic Pro and/or Reason
 Recording and editing audio
Mixing - Introduction to EQ, Dynamics and FX
Connections, home setup & buying advice
