The South West's Premier Music Expo

Analogue to Digital Music Expo - Take Your Music to the Next Level

Live Demos, Masterclasses, Stalls, hands-on Workshops, Music Industry Panels, 1-1 Surgeries, Live Performances and a whole load of PRIZES!

Date: Saturday 21 April 2012

Press Release

A must for all music enthusiasts, this year’s Analogue to Digital Music Expo takes place on Saturday 21 April at Exeter Phoenix. Now on it’s 4th year and attracting over 800 people in one day, this unique music industry event is packed with workshops, hands-on demos, performances, Q&A’s, music industry panels and studio surgeries featuring some of the industry's leading experts in music production and synthesis, guest speakers and renowned producers and musicians.
A2D brings together the cream of the music industry and music technology companies and manufacturers fresh from international shows - the NAMM show in USA and Musikmesse in Germany - to present all the very latest and greatest equipment & software for amateur and professional musicians, performers, songwriters, DJs, engineers and producers right at your doorstep in the cultural heart of the city!
On the day you can try out the latest technology in music recording, production and performance, including guitar and bass technology, drums and soft synths and most importantly speak to the experts about how to get the most out of this amazing equipment! The show spreads over 4 zones, including a live auditorium, media centre, workshop areas and a professional recording studio. The day culminates into the legendary prize draw of £6,000+ worth of music software and hardware!
This boutique event showcases cutting-edge music software, hardware and instruments used in music creation, production and performance, from the likes of AVID (Pro-Tools), Native Instruments, Time + Space, Quested Monitors, TfPro, Yamaha, alongside smaller, quirkier companies: Reactable from Barcelona, Soundbeam, Eigenlabs, Analogue Systems and Skoog! Music industry panels run throughout the day with music legends, producer John Leckie (Stone Roses, Radiohead, MUSE), Paul Gray (Musicians Union, ex-Damned) and mastering legend Simon Heyworth, who share their personal experiences with those who wish to pursue a career in the music industry. Paul White and Hugh Robjohns from Sound On Sound magazine (our official media sponsors) give technical advice and guidance to musicians, sound engineers and producers. We are also pleased to welcome keyboard/synthesiser player and programmer Richard Barbieri (Japan, Porcupine Tree) and Roger O'Donnell (The Cure, Psychedelic Furs).
The event is run by Sound Gallery CIC, a social enterprise which provides opportunities in the music industry for young people who are at risk of social exclusion and runs a commercial recording studio - Sound Gallery Studios - in the basement floor at Exeter Phoenix. Sound Gallery are quietly involved in a variety of activities, from pre-production for artists such as Duffy, live sessions with The Steve Cradock band, Curved Air and more, to providing rehearsal facilities for the likes of Finlay Quay, The Computers, hundreds of local bands and voice-over recordings for the BBC (One Show, Rick Mayall), TV adverts (Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall) and New York based advertising agency JWT for the recent Smirnoff advert. The small, but highly skilled team, takes great pride in providing the same high standard services for high-end clients from around the world as well as musicians, businesses, not for profit organisations and fragile individuals. Sound Gallery has successfully forged links with the music industry in London and abroad and have established Analogue to Digital as an annual event that has put Exeter on the map as a leading host for music technology and innovation in the Southwest. ‘This is the show we feel the music industry needs as it gives real networking opportunities for both companies and musicians’ says Jim Peters, managing director of Sound Gallery.

Visitor & Company Feedback:

'A2D offers a different approach to the big shows and much better quality one-on-one time between the public and product specialists. Much kudos to Sound Gallery for making the herculean effort to get this off the ground and long may it continue to shine as an example to others.' Max Hodges (Sound On Sound, forum moderator)

'SOS say Great! Both the SOS staff and our Forum Mod team really enjoyed the event. It's a great opportunity for us all to meet the readers and listen to their ideas.' (Paul Gilby, SOS, New Media Director)

'Thank you for the great show that you organised.' (Gunter Geiger, Reactable Systems)

'A2D was head and shoulders above some of the bigger shows I have attended. It was far more involving and I hope that next year's show will attract even more exhibitors as this year and contributors as I think your event offers an awful lot in comparison to the extend music shops that some of the other events have become' (A2D attendee)

'Congratulations to you all for the A to D event. As before, it was a mind expanding experience and the exhibitors were always only too pleased to answer questions. Their own enthusiasm for the elctronic medium was a pleasure to share with' (Ben Van Weede, Music Development Leader)
