Below is a list of volunteering opportunities that are available to anyone aged 16-25. Can't see a role here that interests you? Then why not think about creating your own? If you have an idea, just run it past us, and we'll do our best to accommodate it.
Administration Assistant - 4 hours pw for 6 months
To assist the Sound Gallery Administrator with everyday office duties, such as answering telephone enquiries, inputting data, dealing with e-mail, maintaining databases, etc.
Charitable Fundraising Assistant - 4 hrs pw for 6 months
Help us to raise money for music projects for young people, and learn more about how a not-for-profit organisation is run.
Workshop Assistant - 2.5hrs pw for 10 weeks
Assist workshop leaders to help groups of young people write, record and perform their own songs, using a variety of instruments and digital technology.
Assistant Live Sound Engineer – 5hrs pw for 3 months
Learn how to set up and run a PA system, and assist our sound engineer to produce the best possible sound quality for our regular live performances.
INNOV8 Steering Group members – average 2.5hrs pw (ongoing)
An innovative group who create their own projects, as well as ensuring that Sound Gallery are meeting the needs and aspirations of local young people with an interest in music. The INNOV8 group also produce their own monthly radio show, "Set The Scene" on Phonic FM, playing an eclectic selection of original music by local bands and artists.
Co-ordinator for Live Music Showcase Events – 4 hrs pw for 3 months
Help to organise live music showcase events at Exeter Phoenix. Get involved with booking bands, organising playing schedules, MC-ing, plus much more.
Graphic Designer - 4 hrs pw for 3 months
Design posters and flyers for Sound Gallery events, help to design graphics and layouts for brochure copy and press ads, and build your portfolio in the process!
Marketing, Publicity & PR Assistants – 8 hrs pw for 3 months
Have you got a creative and questioning mind? Want to learn how to market a service or concept? This role involves creating publicity material, developing new ideas and helping us to promote what we do to other young people. Help to publicise Sound Gallery's projects, events and opportunities. Gain experience of talking to the local media about our work, or become an ambassador for the V project by talking to other young people at open day events about how they can get involved.
Industry Research Assistant – 8 hrs pw for 6 months
Here at Sound Gallery we like to keep our finger on the pulse of changes and developments within the music industry, as well as in music education. As co-founders of the Exeter Music Industry Group, we are keen for more young people to help us to raise the profile of talented local artists, both within the South West and nationally. This opportunity would suit anyone who wants to learn about how the UK music industry operates, and the South West's role in this. Some computer literacy required.
Radio Production Assistant - 4 hrs pw (ongoing)
Help us to produce and present "Set The Scene!", the INNOV8 group's monthly radio show broadcast on Exeter's own Phonic FM (106.8FM). Learn how to conduct interviews, help to write a serialised radio drama, have fun on-air as a co-presenter, and gain real experience of a working broadcasting studio.
Video Production Assistant - 4 hrs pw for 3 months
Produce a promotional trailer! Film and edit a video diary about the V project! Help to run a Music Video production workshop! Film and edit a Sound Gallery event! These are just some of the possible activities you could be involved with in this role. Would suit someone who wishes to buid a showreel and already has some experience of video editing on a Mac, although this is not essential.
Several of our volunteering roles also afford opportunities for optional peer mentoring. This involves supporting our less able or less experienced volunteers, and enabling them to participate in a range of volunteering activities. An ideal opportunity to gain experience for anyone interested in working as a community musician, music therapist, teacher, or enabler.
