COVID-19 Health and Safety Guidelines
Dear Sound Gallery clients, we have put the following measures in place with a view to keeping our industry as safe as possible so we are able to continue operating whilst retaining our customer’s confidence and protecting vulnerable people whom we often work with. Please read the guidelines in full and follow them whilst visiting Sound Gallery Studios. Thank you for your co-operation. (Updated 19 July 2021).
Prior & Post booking
Please complete and return via email the self-certification health questionnaire 24 hours prior to certify that, to the best of your knowledge, you have not displayed symptoms of COVID-19 nor have come in contact with a known case of COVID-19 in the previous 14-day period. You will receive the questionnaire via email when you book a session with us. We also require evidence of vaccination or evidence of a negative COVID test sent to us prior to the session. If you have any symptoms (dry cough, fever, loss of smell or taste etc.) then please stay at home. If you should contract Covid or have recognised symptoms within 14 days following your session then please notify us immediately.
On arrival: Access – Health & Safety in the Studio
Access to the studio is through the Exeter Phoenix front door entrance or the automatic doors at the back of the building (disabled access). The studio is located in the basement/lower ground floor through the stairs or it can be accessed via the back door under terrace area for wheelchair users. Ring the SG bell and a member of SG staff will open the door for you.
Please scan the Studio QR code on entering the studio or leave your name and phone number with a member of SG staff.
Due to the enclosed nature and layout of the EP basement we ask clients to wear a face covering (SG studio spaces are fully air-conditioned and ventilated). Face coverings can be removed once you are in Studio 1 or Studio 2, after the engineer has set up and left the room.
Maintain 1+ metre distance when in close contact with others in the studio spaces (unless you are in a bubble with them). Please wait until areas are clear before you move into them. Look before rushing out of doors.
Please do not pause in corridors, EP ground floor area or outside SG Control room and offices
Use Hand sanitisers when entering the basement & studio spaces.
We have stringent sterilisation, cleaning and ventilation procedures in place to ensure that the studio spaces and equipment (including microphones) are disinfected between sessions.
Recording (Studio 1, Studio 2, Vocal booth, Control room)
Control Room and Offices are accessed by SG staff only. To enable direct communications and sight-lines with the engineer and playback of mixes through monitors, we have set up a 2-way monitoring system between Studio 1, Studio 2, Vocal Booth & Control room to ensure the smooth running of your session.
Equipment is disinfected when there is a change of designated user. We alternate microphones between different users and sessions. Microphones are guaranteed for 2-3 days between sessions.
We have adjusted our timings to allow for a gap between sessions for rooms and equipment to be sanitised.
Please arrive and leave on time to allow us to properly clean the room for the next client.
Musicians are asked to ensure that anything they bring with them (instruments, cables, cymbals, pedalboards) has been disinfected.
No SG equipment is to be relocated and everything must remain where found on entry.
Only band members/clients are permitted in the Studio rooms, minors can be accompanied by 1 adult.
No under 6 year olds allowed in the studio.
No food or drinks in the rooms, bottled water only. Please take empty bottles with you.
Please go straight into Studio 1 or Studio 2 and do not pause in corridors or outside Control Room.
Entry to the the studio spaces by the engineer during occupation by musicians should only occur if the session can no longer continue without an intervention. A designated staff member who needs to attend to equipment in the live area whilst musicians are present must do this promptly and should not last for more than 5 minutes. Alternatively the musician(s) will be asked to move to Studio 2 (or vocal booth) until the engineer finishes attending to equipment in Studio1.
Mixing and mastering sessions take place remotely or in the studio via a monitor system installed in Studio 1 & Control Room to enable audio/visual communication between engineer and client.
Training courses & Tutorials
Music technology sessions take place remotely via Skype/screen sharing or in the studio via a monitor system to enable communication between tutor and participant
Please pay in advance by BACS (bank details provided on our invoice) or Paypal (Paypal payments incur 2.9% charge to cover paypal admin costs).
Recording sessions are paid in advance in full. If you have to cancel a session we will refund the full amount minus £50 cancellation fee or we can move and re-book your session to a later date.
Toilet facilities for SG staff and clients are on the first floor at Exeter Phoenix. Please ask for directions on arrival. Please be aware that the main entrance to the building, and all areas and access points up to Sound Gallery Studios including the toilet facilities, are common areas and they are under Exeter Phoenix jurisdiction.
Travel to the studio
Although car parking is very limited in the premises, please let us know in advance whether you require parking and will endeavour to give you a parking permit by special arrangement with Exeter Phoenix.
