COVID-19 Health and Safety Guidelines
Dear Sound Gallery clients, we have put the following measures in place to minimise risk in accordance to Government & MPG guidelines. Please read the guidelines in full and follow them whilst visiting Sound Gallery Studios.
Prior & Post booking
Please complete and return to us the self-certification health questionnaire 24 hours prior to coming to Sound Gallery Studios to certify that, to the best of your knowledge, you have not displayed symptoms of COVID-19 or come in contact with a known case of COVID-19 in the previous 14-day period. We will send you the questionnaire via email when you book a session with us.
If you have any symptoms (dry cough, fever, loss of smell or taste etc.) then please stay at home. If you or any band member should contract Covid or have recognised symptoms within 14 days following your session then please notify us immediately.
Travel to the studio
Car parking for clients is limited and will be allocated where possible via prior arrangement. Please let us know whether you require a parking permit as soon as possible.
Please walk up to the front entrance of Exeter Phoenix and ring the studio number (01392-495301). You will be met by a member of SG staff to let you in the building. Clients to go straight into Studio 1/2 and not pause in corridors or outside Control room/Offices.
Please wear a face covering during getting in and out of the building including entering the basement, due to the layout of the building and the possibility of crossing paths with other basement users (PhonicFM DJs & Double Elephant members and EP staff). Face coverings can be removed once you are in Studio 1/Studio 2.
Please use the hand sanitiser when entering the studio, this will be provided in each room.
Equipment will be disinfected when there is a change of designated user.
Please maintain social distancing (1m + separation) at all times. Wait until areas are clear before you move into them. Look before rushing out of doors. Pay attention to others within communal areas (main entrance, basement corridors) and wait when necessary to maintain social distancing.
Where possible, musicians are asked to ensure that anything they bring with them has been cleaned, instruments, heads, cables, pedalboards etc.
Allocated toilet for SG staff and clients is situated on the first floor at Exeter Phoenix.
In the Studio
Due to COVID-19 restrictions we are currently allowing up to 4 people in Studio 1 and Studio 2 and 1 person in the vocal booth. The Control room is accessed by the engineer only. We have installed a monitoring system to enable audio-visual communication amongst all spaces to ensure the smooth and safe running of the session.
Only band members/clients are permitted in the Studio rooms, minors can be accompanied by 1 adult.
No under 6 year olds allowed in the studio. No walk ins.
No food or drinks in the rooms, bottled water only. Please take empty bottles with you.
We have adjusted our timings to allow for a gap between bands for rooms and equipment to be sanitised.
Please arrive and leave on time to allow us to properly clean the room for the next client.

Control Room and Offices are accessed by SG staff only. To enable direct communications and sight-lines with the engineer and playback of mixes through monitors, we have set up a 2-way monitoring system between Studio 1, Studio 2, Vocal Booth, Control room to ensure the smooth running of your session.
Entry to Studio 1 by the engineer during occupation by musicians should only occur if the session can no longer continue without an intervention. A designated staff member who needs to attend to equipment in the live area whilst musicians are present must do this promptly and should not last for more than 5 minutes. Alternatively the musician(s) will be asked to move to Studio 2 (or vocal booth) until the engineer finishes attending to equipment in Studio 1.
Control Room & Offices are accessed by SG staff only.
Please go straight into Studio 2 and do not pause in corridors or outside Control Room/ Studio 1.
Please bring your own Microphones & Cymbals to minimise the risk of infection.
No equipment is to be relocated and everything must remain where found on entry.
Mixing and mastering sessions are currently taking place remotely or via a monitor system installed in studio 1/studio 2 to enable communication between control room and studio 1/studio 2.
Music Technology Courses & Music Production Tutorials
Music technology sessions are currently taking place remotely via Skype/screen sharing or via a monitor system installed in studio 1/studio 2 to enable communication between control room and studio 1/studio 2.
Work experience programme and placement have been postponed for Summer 2021.
Payments: Please pay in advance by BACS (bank details provided on our invoice) or Paypal (Paypal payments incur 5% charge to cover paypal admin costs).
Recording sessions are paid in advance in full. If you have to cancel a session we will refund the full amount minus £50 cancellation fee or we can move and re-book your session to a later date.
Rehearsal sessions are paid in advance in full. (Min charge: £40 to allow for extra admin and cleaning before and after each client). If you have to cancel a session we will refund the full amount minus £20 cancellation fee, or we can move and re-book your session to a later date.
